Android
Android operating system combines the open-source code with a closed-source third-party application. Android open source project (AOSP) is open source part of the operating system and is totally open and free to be used and modified by anyone. The main goal of Android is to support a rich third-party application environment which needs a stable implementation and API for applications to run against. CDD (Compatibility Definition Document) defines the way the Android must act to be compatible with third-party applications. The requirement for compatible Android device is specified in CSS.
History of Android
Android is Linux-based OS specifically designed for smartphones and tablet computers which come with touchscreen features. It is a stack of software such as operating system, middleware, and applications for mobile devices. Android is an open source technology, it permits the software to be freely modified and distributed by developers and makers of the device. Android is developed by the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) which was formed in November 2007. The OHA is a business coalition which was created by "Google". This coalition includes 47 companies formed for the development of an open standard platform for mobile phones. The manufacturer of handset devices chip manufacturers, commercialization companies, software companies, and mobile operators are the members of the OHA business coalition. In the year 2005, Google bought the initial developer of the software. The promotion of Android distribution in 2007 was publicized with the fouding of the open handset alliance (OHA). The release of Android code as open-source under the Apache License is done by "Google". A large group of people writes the application for android that expand the functionality of the devices. Application developer use customized version of Java to write the application. Apps can be downloaded from third-party sites or through online stores such as Google play (formerly Android Market ), the app store run by Google.
